Local Organizations

Nido de Lenguas – I volunteer with Nido de Lenguas, a partnership between UCSC linguistics and local nonprofit organization Senderos, helping to organize events for the public to learn about indigenous languages of Oaxaca.

The Cove – UCSC’s collegiate recovery space. I am a volunteer and peer mentor at the Cove, and I organized a monthly recovery discussion series during the 2020-21 school year.

Language Resources

Songs of the Aleutians & Alaska Peninsula – I created this website during CoLang 2016 to make some of the materials from the Alaska Native Language Archive more accessible to the Aleut community and to researchers. It includes recordings, musical transcriptions, translations, language lessons, and commentary.

Unangam Tunuu (Aleut) Language Tools – This site contains the above songs, as well as other language tools created during CoLang 2016.

Zapotec Language Project – A collaboration between linguists at UCSC and members of the Zapotec language community. This project focuses on the Zapotec varieties of the southeastern Sierra Norte of Oaxaca, Mexico, spoken in Santiago Laxopa and nearby towns. The site contains an online dictionary and texts, as well as other resources.

Engaging the Community: Using Field Methods Classes for Community Outreach – This is the website for the SSILA 2023 session I co-organized with colleagues from language communities, UCSC, and UCSB. Slides and materials from the tutorials are available for download.
