Día de los Muertos 2021 with Senderos

This is a bit late and out of chronological order, but I wanted to share a few photos and memories from Día de los Muertos 2021. Santa Cruz, CA has an annual festival that is a partnership between Senderos and the Santa Cruz Museum of Art & History (MAH). The event usually features a traditional ofrenda or altar, face painting, sugar skulls, live music, folkloric dancing, food for sale, and a procession from the MAH to the Santa Cruz Mission and on to Evergreen Cemetery.

Because of the pandemic, we had a smaller celebration in the cemetery this year. I was lucky enough to be included in two different ways:

First, I was there with Nido de Lenguas, helping to connect people with information about Oaxacan languages and facilitate language games.

I also got to participate on flute with the Senderos Ensamble Musical, with whom I have been playing and learning.
